Notice of Race for National 12 Gill Series Summer Event 25th and 26th August 2012

Saturday 25th August: Gill Series Races on Saturday 25th August starting at 1pm (warning signal 12.55 hrs). The Crew’s Race will also take place on the Saturday after the first two races.

Sunday 26th August: National 12 Pursuit Race starting at 10am. Gill Series races scheduled time of the first warning signal is 11.55 hrs. The second Gill Series race will take place after lunch.

 

1 RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2 The RYA prescriptions to the Racing Rules of Sailing will apply.

1.3 The Sailing Instructions will apply.

1.4 Racing rule 40 will be changed – Use of personal buoyancy. When on the water competitors shall wear adequate personal buoyancy.

2 ADVERTISING

2.1 Advertising will be designated as Category C.

2.2 In addition all boats competing in the Gill series shall display Gill stickers on the bow

3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

3.1 The Championship is open to boats of the National 12 class.

3.2 Eligible boats may enter at Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club between 11.00hrs and 12.30hrs on 25th August 2012.

4 ENTRY FEES

£27 (£20 for Juniors)

5 SCHEDULE

5.1 Saturday 25th August:

2 Gill Series Races on Saturday 25th August starting at 1pm (warning signal 12.55 hrs).

6 MEASUREMENTS

Boats may be requested to provide a valid measurement certificate.

7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be available during registration.

9 THE COURSES

The courses to be sailed are described in the Sailing Instructions.

10 PENALTY SYSTEM

10.1 The penalties are as detailed in RRS 44.

10.2 The Exoneration penalty (and the Advisory Hearing and RYA Arbitration procedures) of the RYA Rules Disputes Procedures will be available.

11 SCORING

11.1 The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply.

11.2 Gill Series: When fewer than 4 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. When 4 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

12 RADIO COMMUNICATION

Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

13 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The

organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death

sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

14 INSURANCE

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2 million per event or the equivalent.

Food will be available from the club. We will be holding a D.I.Y. BBQ in the evening – we will provide bread rolls and salad but please bring your own meat. (There is a Sainsburys and Morrisons a five minute drive from the sailing club.)

The prize giving will take place after racing on Sunday and the event will also see the awarding of the Shotgun trophy for the first vintage boat overall.

Accommodation:

Space for free camping and campervans is available at the club. Please contact Sophie if you are planning to arrive on Friday night.
